Offida (may 2003)

We attended an important ceremony for the inhabitants of Offida: religious twinning with a neighbouring village. These two villages quarrel since many years about the property of religious relics. In order to solve this insoluble problem, the respective mayors and bishops decided to join in the form of a twinning, the relics will be now, alternatively in one and the other village.

The "Contract"Détail

We will finish our tourist visit by the theatre "It teatro Serpente Aureo". Built about the years 1700, it is located inside the Room of the Council of the Town hall. Following an earthquake, it underwent many transformations about 1900. It was rebuilt with a structure baroque with cabins, balconies and a scene of 13m by 6. Eight medallions, portraits of authors as Verdi, Rossini..., decorate it. I was likely to attend a concert, I had a small thought for my Elke friend (see the report of Emden), because the orchestra was German: "Stadkapelle Memmingen". With the program, of course "Nabucco" of Verdi, but also "Königsmarsch" of Strauss and some airs of.... Franck Sinatra!

In a city where lace is omnipresent (I recall you: 2000 lacemakers for a little more than 5000 inhabitants), it was surprising that I do not speak to you about museum. Then here, will find us "Il Museo di Offida" via Roma. This museum comprises 5 rooms (including one where you will see my friends lacemakers working). It was built by the family De Castellotti in 1700 (Palazzo of castellotti). It was their property until 1856. Currently, it is composed of three parts: bobbin lace, archaeology and traditions popular. In the principal room of the palate, at first floor, is "la pinacoteca comunale".
