Novedrate (01 to September 08, 2002)

Lace is omnipresent in Novedrate. It is evident when you see the walls of the town hall, which we had the privilege to visit. The handing-over of the diplomas to the lacemakers of "Comitato Novedratese Promozione del Pizzo" is a significant ceremony followed by many visitors.

It is held in several phases: first of all a small introduction by "Il Sindaco" Serafino Grassi, then the beginners (50 hours of study of lace) receive their certificate validated by the regional delegate of the culture. Comes then, the diplomas given to the lacemakers having 10 years of study. Then the "mistresses" receive a gift for the rendered services. The Ernestina director is not of course forgotten, and a homage is paid to him in end of the ceremony. To finish the evening, a collation is served at the guests.
