Lace to the Baronnie de Bretteville on Odon (in July 7 and 8, 2001)
The conclusion of Michel Bouvot, President of the association DBCC
What to say about the past weekend?
I had 3 objectives:
1) The happiness of the participants: I saw all the faces of the traders and the lacemakers happy Sunday evening. I believe that this first objective is reached 99 %! Even my friend who sprained itself the ankle on Saturday evening by going out of the room Beaulieu and whom I called yesterday to take news. She reassured me and already forgets the plaster to keep in recollection only the drawing which decorates him, the warm reception and the cheerfulness who reigned these two days.
2) The prestige of the lace: There, we have not yet managed to move many elected members who consider doubtless always our activity as a minor art and without big interest! We had the pleasure to meet the Mayor of Ste Honorine du Fay, the small municipality where we have an activity lacemaker every week, Mrs Ferry, adds to Bretteville / Odon's culture, and Mrs Claire Trouvé, assistant representing the city of Caen. Courseulles's municipality sent, neither representative, nor small absence note ! Today, with an empty museum, Courseulles is still on the road of the lace? Finally, we shall continue to fight for the gratitude of our patrimony and our activity. It is true that one waits for the creation of a lace museum in Caen since 1855...
3) The financial aspect: For this 3-rd point, things are less good. Certainly, with subsidies, we are not in deficit, but if we moved without any trouble people come from the four corners of France and even of Switzerland, Quebec, Holland, England, Belgium, Denmark, Germany...) our Norman were little numerous in the meeting.
Thanks to all, exhibitors and lacemakers, guests and volunteers who prepared this lace meeting IN THE COURSE OF THE ODON of July 7 and 8, 2001.
The global balance remains very positive and, I think, we shall begin again in two years.
The president of the association DBCC: Mr Bouvot
